AI rejection statement

Scatterpunk Press is proud not to use AI at any stage in our creative or production process.

Everything you see and read in a Scatterpunk creation, including this website itself, was painstakingly crafted by a human – even (and especially) when it would have been easier, cheaper, faster, hipper or sexier to drop a prompt into an AI tool, and go make love or popcorn instead.

We believe that creativity is the greatest articulation of the human soul we have, and that true excellence is not achievable without years of difficult, and therefore formative, apprenticeship. It follows that true creativity cannot come from AI, a soulless entity that merely imitates emotions it has observed in the work of others. (Please consider that imitation of emotions without a capacity to feel them oneself is among the characteristics of a psychopath.) Moreover, AI's consumption of the work of others remains an unsettled area of copyright law, and only grifters knowingly truck with potential thieves.

By all means, use AI to speed up a spreadsheet or an online order. But keep AI out of the record and celebration of human experience, where storytelling, poetry, and art are pressed from us by the rigors, agonies and rewards of living.
